Printed circuit boards used in military applications have to be reliable and withstand harsh conditions such as strong vibrations, shocks and variations in temperature.
By default, through hole and blind via metallization is tested according to MIL standard for all PCBs manufactured at GS Swiss PCB AG. The test requires thermal shocking at 288°C of the DUT and microsections are prepared. Thereafter, the test strips is examined for microscopic cracks and the copper thickness in the barrel is measured.
